Corrected
this post was spoken to a dell axim running windows mobile five software. I
used the program notes to record voice. I then attached a cable to the
speaker port on my axim that also had a male plug on the other end. I then
played back the note into the microphone port on my PC allowing voice
recognition to recognize my voice. this method was hampered by my inability
to take a long voice notes on the axim. If this was somehow overcome this
could become an exceedingly useful little trick.

pretty good (I thought) seeing as I have the craclepop voice of the 15 year
old that I am, and that I was flustered by the timer on the voice notes.
good work Microsoft! now make voice notes on windows Mobil work better and
integrate this with active sync and we could be looking at revolution.
(what I see(I am a math geek) is that I am standing in front of my white
board, I write out an equation. press a button on a digital camera strapped
onto my head like a headlamp, say trick for "whatever the equation is used
for" and I now have on my pc an image in the equations directory on my
vista desktop named "trick for "whatever the equation is used for"")

well anyway that is just my little day dream...

Warning high DPI mode does not work in vista

A few days ago I moved to high DPI mode on vista. It did not work very well applications opened up larger than the size of the screen or opened up off it. Things were bigger but many things grainyr as well. The biggest problem was moving back, the grainy things never got smaller again.

You have been warned.

I just noticed a interesting sort bug in windows mail. Let's see if you can guess what I am referring to.

If anyone is having trouble getting file sharing to work. Check your work group. If the workgroup is set to Workgroup instead of whatever your networks work group is(mine is Hobbsnet). File sharing just won't work. This problem only occurs in vista.

I sent a shortcut to my searches folder to the desktop and created a set of hot keys(ctrl-alt-home)I pressed these hot keys and 6 seconds later the searches directory came up. There's not a noticeable delay when I double click the link. Funny, everything else in vista has been faster than in XP.

After resuming from sleep mode in vista. You may find that windows media player no longer starts. Simply pressing control alt delete down arrowing to task manager in the menu that appears pressing enter. Going to the processes. Pressing w until you come to "wmplayer.exe" and pressing end now. Will allow you to start up windows media player again from the start menu.

Vista is supposed to resume from sleep mode at the presses a key or at the move the mouse. According to Microsoft’s windows vista performance page. It also resumes, for me, when I unplug my axim, or do anything else that would change the USB configuration. This seems like the axim’s white screen of death bug in that when resumed with a USB or PS 2 device it freezes irrecoverably.

I've discovered why windows resumes at random for me at least. When the table is shaken the mouse moves a slight amount and vista does not check to see if it had moved more than say 10 pixels. It's Microsoft's turn to answer the questions, so why does windows halt after a few seconds one windows is resumed with the mouse?

How to change the basic color seems for windows

It is possible to change some of the colours windows. you do this by pressing window key R, typing regedit. And I'm going to(in vista)HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Colors. You can then set the colors to the desired RGB values. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rgb
These must be written in the form 000 000 000 with spaces in between the three groups of numbers if you're going to set red to one you must write 001 000 000 with the zeros before the one. You must log off and log back on for your changes to take effect. I recommend backing up the colors registry directory before and after the changes. Installing office for instance will set the colors back to the default so once you've customized your scheme. You'll want to be able to recustomize without having to tweak everything again. Once the registry key is backed up simply opening it in windows explorer will restore the values that were backed up.
Note for vista users: there are several color picker applets tha use java. Do not install java on vista beta two it's currently not supported and it'll make Internet explorer unable to start until you open it up to no add ons mode and disable the java pluggins. There are three of them. By not able to start I mean crashes on startup.

On the MS newsgroups(available through windows mail) there's been talk that sleep mode will start up randomly. I experienced this just now. I started writing this post. And everything stopped the cursor stopped blinking nothing happened after taking a long shower and leaving the computers sitting there(the hard disk was clicking away when I left) nothing happened. I resorted to restarting the computer by pressing the button on the chassis. Not even the normal power button had an effect. If

However there is still one problem. I get This
(contacts could not locate an e-mail cleint that it could invoke)

when I click on a contact and press new email message

In vista it is possible to accidentally set the default e-mail client to one you don't want. For instance I installed outlook 2007 along with the package for Microsoft Office 2007 and decided I did not like outlook. I whent to remove outlook, and the email link on my start menu no longer pointed to windows mail. I did not realize this at the time, I was moving quickly. I pressed enter and nothing happened. I pressed enter again. Clicking yes in a dialog asking me whether I would like to remove the currently invalid link. The link was gone. Right clicking on the blue button at the bottom left corner of the screen

, which normally brings up the start menu, brings up a context menu. On this context menu is the option "properties" with a tab,"start menue"(which by the way cannot be said and speech recognition because saying start menue brings up the start menue). In this propertys dialog there are two buttons named customize.

I pressed to the top one.
And was granted a dialog with two check boxes at the bottom.

I checked the e-mail link.
NOTE: you may want to unchecked the Internet link press OK press customize again and recheck the Internet link. That way the Internet link will be on top on your start menu so you can press window key down arrow enter. To start your web browser.

This still did not fix a problem completely. I had to go to default programs (a button on the start menu) press set default programs for this computer. Select windows mail, and press OK first.

I've been playing chess titans which comes with vista. The AI is excellent. Not in that it can bet me, but and that I can beat it without it doing anything idiotic. Most of the AI that I have used has done things were explicitly stupid on the easy levels. This one is much more discreet about it.

I have a weird bug in visual studio. It acts like a VI in that when I type the cursor moves of the text does not update. Unlike VI though I can't simply press escape to update the text, I have to either force the document to redraw by switching tabs or wait for about 30 seconds. Even scrolling so the text is out of view and then back again does not update it. Does anyone know the solution?

I found a oddness that I like. You can go into media center set visualizations to start running. press window key b. arow over to the system tray icon for gadgets and pressed bring gadgets to front. This allows you to have the fancy animation as a backdrop for the gadgets and other windows.

Error code 0x80004005 extracting zip file. I was trying to install aviscreen. Of course the dialogue that came up saying that I should take note of the error code did not have the ability to have its text sellected.

Today I was playing with vistas search feature. I found that the index of users which is the default includes the application data folder which is kind of silly. I was getting all sorts of double file results because many of the files and my user folder also appear to be in the temp folder under application data. It also kind of odd to come up with search results from a folder that is hidden from users. So I went into control panel and indexing options and went to go and disable the folder. It would not let me, though it did not come come up with any dialogue saying there was a permissions problem or something, clicking, pressing space bar, pressing enter, nothing changed. Then I saw a button labeled run as administrator. This reminded me of kubuntu. I was even more reminded, when I clicked on it and windows asked me whether I would like to run "run app as dll" as administrator, I pressed to continue, and nothing happened. After restarting the control panel I was able to enter the administrator mode. It still would not let me disabled indexing on the application data folder.

vista

Right now I’m sitting on the floor sitting on a beanbag doing my Spanish homework and playing around with Microsoft narator and speaking using speech recognition. I have a keyboard sitting in front of me in case I get lost, so far I have spent the majority of my time on my keyboard which I am familiar with. Speech recognition is not terribly great but it is good enough that I can remember what I was saying and correct it later by reading over the text that seems to be similar to my train of thought. Windows media player is exceedingly inaccessible (Microsoft speech recognition transcribes us as unacceptable I thought that was fitting) I could not have used it with out the mouse, I am glad my hands are getting better. I Press ALT in Microsoft word 2007 beta and I find that narrator does not list the hot keys, this makes it so that I don’t know what letters I could press, this increase’s the learning curve because I have to go in and listen to the listing of the window again by pressing control shifts space which often does not work. It is also very time consuming.
Flip three D obviously is pointless without a display so I don’t see why windows is unable to set the hockey for alt tab to window key tab which is closer together and therefore easier on small hands. I think it’s just that Microsoft was being lazy or “trying to keep up with those deadlines” as one might say.
The drivers are still very scary crash prone and halting at random. There are other issues that make windows vista completely unacceptable for consumer use, for instance, I have windows set up so that my computer goes into sleep mode when I Press the power button, today I pressed the power button and my computer restarted. Of course losing all my work.
Back to Spanish.
Just trying to save this ,of course in word, word crashes. Luckily it recovered my work.
